School Leaver Employment Supports Enquiry

Got some questions?

What is School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES)?

School Leaver Employment Supports are funded under your NDIS plan and designed to help you transition from school to work.

What are some of the things I can learn with SLES?

You can choose from many activities and topics to work on with your SLES coach. These include:

  • Managing self
  • Career planning
  • Travel planning
  • Social skills in the workplace
  • Resume and cover letter writing
  • Social and business communication
  • Feedback
  • Job search strategies
  • My budget
  • Numeracy and literacy
  • Interviewing skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Work health and safety
  • Support in the workplace

Each of these activities has a workbook, which will guide you to ‘watch, think and do’ to help you learn.

What other employment programs are available?

Help offers multiple employment pathways to suit your needs. If SLES isn’t the right path for you, then Disability Employment Services or Supported Employment might be a better fit.

Supported Employment (SEM) is a program where you work in a supported environment across one of Help’s social enterprise businesses. SEM provides an opportunity to develop skills, earn your own income, and grow independence, all while receiving extra support on the job.

Disability Employment (DES) is tailored support for people with disability, illness, injury, or health conditions to prepare for, find, and maintain work. Our coaches help you get job-ready and find work you enjoy. And when you’ve got the job, we provide ongoing support and coaching.

Get in touch to learn more about our employment programs and discover which one is best for you!

Am I eligible for SLES?

There are two ways to find out if you are eligible for SLES with Help:

  1. You can check your NDIS plan for eligibility. You will have ‘School Leaver Employment Supports’ listed under Capacity Building (3.10).
  2. Our team can help you navigate the requirements, process, and paperwork for your next NDIS planning meeting in order to secure funding.

What if I’m not a ‘school leaver’ anymore?

That’s ok, our employment supports can be tailored to anyone regardless of your age. Ask us about alternative funding options. (At Help, we call this ‘Inclusive Employment Supports’.)

If SLES isn’t the right option for you, Disability Employment Services (DES) or Supported Employment might be a good fit. Call us to discuss your options.
