Tell us a little about your background

I have worked in the disability sector for more than 30 years. Prior to that I also worked in Aged Care and was in the Army Reserves.

How long have you worked at HELP?

7 years & 9 months

What led you to join the HELP team?

I was leaving a job at a different provider, saw the position advertised on SEEK, and thought – that looks good!

What are you most passionate about? What inspires you?

Working in the disability sector! It never ceases to amaze me what people can do when given the chance.

On the weekend you’ll find me…

Doing the regular things, cleaning, shopping, and of course visiting the grandkids.

What’s the best part of the job?

Being with our supported employees their families, and our team.

What’s your favourite HELP memory?

Probably the transformation I’ve witnessed with our supported employees. There are two stories that really stand out in my memory. When I first started there was a supported employee who had just transitioned to HELP and she was having a really hard time adjusting and finding tasks that engaged her. We worked together to try new jobs and eventually discovered a range of different tasks that she really enjoyed. Her demeanour completely changed from that moment. She had a renewed sense of independence and was happy and excited to come to work!

More recently we also had a supported team member Kellie transition into a Team Leader role. Throughout her time with HELP Kellie and I have formed a strong bond and worked to build her confidence. She’s made such amazing progress.

What are your plans for the future? What are you most looking forward to?

Downsizing and moving to the beach where I can swim all year round.

3 fun facts about me…

I love bodyboarding, fishing & swimming.

If you could invite any three people to dinner living or dead who would they be?

My parents, of course, Michael Palin, and John Cleese.

What’s your secret talent?

I love making things out of what I find on the beach.

Favourite place in the world?

Moreton Island

Favourite Quote?

I don’t have a favourite quote but my mantra comes from a movie that I love. The life of Brian – ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE!
