Your NDIS planning meeting gives you the opportunity to request supports and services that will help you pursue your goals and create a healthier, happier, more productive life.

Once you have been granted access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), you will be contacted by your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) to arrange a planning meeting.

This meeting will help determine how much funding you will receive and what it can be spent on, so it’s important to be well-prepared.

What happens at your first NDIS planning meeting?

At your first meeting, your planner will discuss:

  • Your day to day life, family, friends, hobbies, work, and interests
  • Your goals
  • Supports you need to pursue your goals
  • Managing your plan funding

We suggest preparing a list of questions in advance to ask your planner, as well as some information about your everyday life. You can refer to this list in the meeting so you don’t forget anything that you’d like to talk about.

It’s also helpful to take supporting documentation with you that covers any medical supports you require, for example, letters from your specialist or GP.

What to take to your planning meeting

  • Your list of questions
  • Your participant booklet (completed to the best of your ability)
  • Your myGov login in and password details
  • Personal identification (driver’s licence, passport, birth certificate). If there is someone attending the meeting who has consent to act on your behalf, they must also take their own ID.
  • Bank account details
  • Any relevant correspondence from the NDIS
  • Reports from health professionals
  • Letters from your primary carer
  • List of assistive technology that you use; such as wheelchairs, modified cutlery, or communication devices

We know getting ready for your planning meeting can be a little stressful at times, so we’ve created a checklist that you can print out and refer to during your meeting.
