Team Leader Tetiana is anything but ordinary. Originally from Ukraine, Tetiana started her career as a Bank Manager before moving halfway across the world to pursue a new career with purpose. We sat down with Tetiana to get a look at life behind the scenes at our Mitchelton Hub, and find out more about her amazing journey.

How long have you worked at HELP’s Mitchelton Hub?

6 years

What inspired you to pursue a career in disability care?

I started my career as a Bank Manager in several Internationals banks (in Ukraine and Russia), but my world turned upside down when I became a volunteer in the hospital and realised how short life is, and how important it is to provide the right support. After moving to Australia I knew that I wanted to work in a job where I could make a difference.

How would you describe the Mitchelton Hub?

Our participants are at the centre of everything we do. It’s important for us to keep the lines of communication open with our clients and their families so that we can create a space that is like a second home. Our close-knit team focuses on achieving goals and problem solving, making sure everyone has a smile on their dial, even on those tough days.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

When I hear positive feedback from our clients, families, and fellow team members.

Is there one specific memory or moment from your time working at the Hub that makes you say “wow this is why I do what I do” or “this is why I love my job”?

When one of our participants first started coming to Hub she was often quite distressed, not wanting to participate in activities or interact with the team. Slowly but surely we have worked with her to build trust to gain an understanding of what she likes to do and incorporate that into her daily program. Seeing her transformation during this time has really been a fulfilling experience for me. I’m so proud of how far she has come and excited for what lays ahead for her in the future as she pursues her passion for art.

In your experience, what kind of impact do you think community spaces/services like the Mitchelton Hub can have on someone’s life?

I am a mother of two children so I understand how important it is to know that the people I love will be provided with reliable care, that they are safe, and that they will receive the skills they need to progress in life. We have received so many positive stories from our clients about finding work and enjoying their life because of their experiences at our hub.

Finish this sentence – When I’m not working at the Hub you’ll find me…

Studying, volunteering, having fun with my children and friends.

3 fun facts about you!

I enjoy ballet, skiing, and interior design. One of my favourite things to do is to study the latest design trends to see how I can use them in my home. I love renovating – I even laid the tiles in my bathroom by myself!
